Scott Murphy was born and raised
on a farm in Central Illinois. He
received his degree in Business Administration from Illinois Wesleyan
University. After graduation he came back
to the farm where he expanded the family seed corn business to provide more
services to the seed companies. In 2003
he started a company to buy and sell second hand equipment used in the hybrid
seed industry. His company seedequipment.com
now deals with companies that comprise over 95% of the seed market. Their international business deals with
customers in over 30 countries.
Scott was appointed as a representative
on the McLean County Board then was elected to that seat in the next election. He has been on the Transportation, Finance,
Justice and Land Use committees. He is
currently the chair of the Property committee.
He sits on the board of the charity The Children’s Home and Aid. He also is a member of the equipment
committee of the American Seed Trade Association. Other organization memberships include PADI
(Professional Association of Diving Instructors) where he holds the rank of
Divemaster, AOPA (Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, SEE (Society of
Explosives Engineers), and IPSA (Independent Professional Seed Association).
He was a champion wrestler in High School
and College and wrestled in international style tournaments after college. Later in life he fought Tae Kwon Do and Mixed
Martial Arts. He has competed in road
races, triathlons, motorsports and bull riding.
He is a licensed pilot and has parachuted from planes. He holds the rank of dive master in SCUBA and
worked as a diver for a dynamiting company.
